Extending Functionality with SLSC

While PXI modules provide the core I/O capabilities, additional functionality is often needed to effectively interface with the Device Under Test (DUT). These extended capabilities include:

  • Fault insertion
  • Logic level shifting
  • Signal conditioning
  • Signal amplification or attenuation
  • Load or sensor emulation
  • High-current or high-voltage drive

These functions are typically implemented using the SLSC platform, which complements PXI by managing the electrical adaptation, protection, and flexibility required at the DUT interface.

SLSC modules vary in complexity:

Some are dedicated to a single function (level shifting). Others combine multiple capabilities (fault insertion and signal conditioning in one module). Each SLSC module is defined by its function type and associated parameters, much like PXI I/O modules. For example, a Fault Insertion Unit (FIU) may be specified by:
