HIL Testing on Windows Demo

In this version of the HIL demo project, the complete model-based design workflow for developing and testing the ADAS Cruise Control software application (as demonstrated in the Model/Software-in-the-Loop example) has been transitioned to the NI HIL real-time simulation environment.

This Rapid Control Prototyping setup on Windows lets users:

  • Familiarize themselves with the migration workflow of simulation models (MIL to HIL)

  • Test MIL/SIL to HIL is functionally without physical hardware using the NI VeriStand real-time testing and simulation environment

This demo project showcases the use of a model-based framework for the design and functional validation of an ADAS Cruise Control software application. It is the same test case used in the Model/Software in the Loop Example Project.

System Requirements

Hardware Component Details Notes
Operating system - 64-bit Windows 10 (version 20H2 or higher)  
RAM - 4 GB, minimum  
Hard disk - 8 GB for a typical installation SSD strongly recommended for performance
Software Components Goal
-  NI VeriStand 2024 Q2 or later Running the plant model and controller model on Windows.

Software Setup Instruction

To run this demo project, NI VeriStand is the only required software. If you do not already have VeriStand installed, you can download and activate the software in evaluation mode.

  1. Go to https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads.html and search for “VeriStand”.
  2. On the VeriStand page, select 2024 Q2 or later, then click Download.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installer.
  4. Using the default options selected, following the on-screen instructions to install the software.
  5. Activate your software.

Note: If your ni.com user account does not have a registered NI VeriStand license, you can still install the latest version of NI VeriStand and run this demo using a 7-day evaluation license.
